A Dead Location

Whatever happened to the library as it was known?

That is the question i am seriously faced with and with that comes a mammoth of other issues affecting society today that you should not get me started with.
Employers are complainig on a daily basis about the lack of well educated graduates and on saturday and sunday, i saw one of the reason why.

As some of you are aware, i am taking my final exams for my M.Sc course so i needed a place to study. Unlike a lot of people, i do not have the will power to study at home with the tv, cable, computer and dvd player all in attendance.

I decided that i had to drive far away form my house to a library so that i could concentrate but to my utter dismay, i was met with the reality of the modern libraries.

I was confronted with people having a laugh as louds as 70dB in sound pressure level bearing in mind that you need 10dB in a library. Music was being played via the computer systems and the endless ringing of mobile phones drove me up the wall.

Whatever happened to the days when you were even afraid to cough in the library for sake of disturbing others? Students nowaday have turned the library into the new "pulling" joint. It is now the place to sit and have a very audible conversation with no respect for those that seriously have to study.

More disturbing was the fact that the librarian as well was busy listening to music on her headphones. The library police can not be bothered so why should the students?

What ever happened to the good ol' days when you whispered a word and heard the sweetest of sound coming from the librarians; shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Gone, gone, gone... with the wind. Next time carry gigantic earplugs!
And we're all prayin' for your success. "No weapon..."
